Welcome to a new Choir season!

Happy New Year, Choir families! January brings the start of our Sing Out! choir season.  On Monday, March 7th at 7 pm at EMCS, we will join our hosts, The Sooke Community Choir along with other elementary choirs from Sooke core schools for an evening of song.  Poirier will be performing two songs – The Ghost Ship, and Clever Chameleon. Please check out the lyrics and videos below, and encourage your choir member to practise.  We generally only rehearse once a week, so listening to the music in between rehearsals is really helpful when we have a lot of words and melodies to learn.

Mark your calendars – more information will be available soon.

The Ghost Ship

Words and Music by

Don Besig and Nancy Price

1. Now listen well as a tale I tell

Of a night I shook with fear.

We were sailing west on the open sea,

Headin’ home from a long, long year.

I was standing watch all alone that night

When I heard a wailing cry.

As I strained to see what the sound could be,

Something flashed and caught my eye.

Chorus

And the cold wind blew——–(pitch goes up first

then down w/crescendo and decrescendo)

And the cold wind blew—-

2. ‘Twas then I spied off the starboard side

A strange mysterious sigh–t.

I froze with fear as it drifted near

Like a ghost in the dark of nigh– t.

I could see a sail on a broken mast

And deserted decks below.

From all around came a mournful sound,

But I saw not a living soul!

Chorus

And the cold wind blew—- < ooo > ——

And the cold wind blew—-

3. Well I held fast to the forward mast

As the ship moved slowly on,

And I watched that day ‘til the break of day,

When I knew that it fin’lly had gone.

Oh they laughed and joked as I told my tale

To the captain and—the men.

But the story’s true, I can promise you,

And it’s sure to happen again.

Yes, it’s sure  –  –   to happen a – gain.

Chorus

And the cold wind blew——–(pitch goes up…)

And the cold wind blew—-!

Clever Chameleon  Words and music by Andy Beck

All:      There’s a clever chameleon

That I’m trying to find

But the clever chameleon

Is playing tricks with my mind

For a clever chameleon

Has a singular skill

And a clever chameleon

Can change its colour at will

Are you green or yellow or brown or blue?

Clever chameleon, which one are you?

Are you purple or orange or pink or white?

Part 1                                                                          Part 2

Clever chameleon                                                    Chameleon,         chameleon

Now a clever chameleon…                                     Chameleon

Right in front of your eyes…                                               Chameleon

A clever chameleon…                                                          A clever chameleon

Can quickly change a disguise.

                                                                               >> For a clever chameleon…

Chameleon                                                               So acute and so keen…

Chameleon                                                               Well, a clever chameleon…

A clever chameleon…                                                          Rarely wants to be seen.

ALL

Are you green or yellow or brown or blue?  Clever chameleon, I can’t see you!

Are you purple or orange or pink or white?  Clever chameleon…

Very clever chameleon!

Tell me, clever chameleon –                                              Tell me, clever chameleon

Of all the colours you do                                                    Of all the colours you do

Oh, clever chameleon                                                         Oh, clever chameleon

Which one  –  is  –  honestly  –  you?

Chameleon.  Clever!                                                            Clever!

Chameleon.  Very clever!                                        Clever!

Chameleon
